Notice: Use of unauthorized software with Tobii eye trackers
The Tobii is an international business which develops and distributes eye tracking technology. Tobii provides a variety of hardware and software products. Among these is consumer eye trackers such as Tobii Eye Tracker 5 and older generations such as Tobii Eye Tracker 4C. The Tobii Eye Tracker 5 and its included software is a consumer product and is developed and intended solely for use by mainstream consumers in gaming applications. It is not developed, approved, or certified for use in any medical devices or environments, including in or within assistive technology purposes.
Tobii also licenses and provides eye tracker hardware that is specifically designed for assistive technology purposes by another company, Tobii Dynavox. These products are sold by teams that have competence and resources to support the varying and demanding needs for support by AAC end-users.
It has come to our attention that unlicensed third-party developers have developed and distribute a software solution and product which uses data from Tobii’s consumer eye trackers such as Tobii Eye Tracker 5. These software and products are developed without a commercial license and without approval from Tobii and, therefore are at risk of ceasing to function properly and have no guarantee for technical support. Purchasing them and attempting to use them with our products, such as the Eye Tracker 5, may lead to a non-functioning product and potentially compromise the overall system integrity and bring huge risks and losses to users.
We strongly urge our customers to refrain from using these unauthorized software solutions and products. Such use not only jeopardizes the functionality and security of your computer and Tobii device but also violates the terms of the software License agreement. Tobii cannot be held responsible for any issues, damages, or losses that may arise from the use of such unlicensed software and products.
Furthermore, Tobii reserves the right to pursue any illegal, unlicensed software to seek cessation of distribution and compensation as it sees necessary in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Our commitment is to provide high-quality, reliable, and legally compliant products, and we are dedicated to taking the necessary actions to protect our technology and our users.
